Five Summer Essentials for Men
With so many product emails flooding your inbox these days it’s difficult to know what garments you want and what garments you really need this summer. Usually summer purchases can be very narrow minded, buying specifically for a certain occasion or event, however would it not be best if you could buy for both an occasion and longevity. We say yes, and here are our top five summer essentials for not only this summer, but many summers to come!
Johnny Collar Knit Polo
The Johnny Collar Knit polo blends retro charm with contemporary ease. Defined by its open, buttonless neckline, it offers a nonchalant alternative to the traditional pique polo shirt and the dreaded golf polo. The best part about this polo is that it looks right at home with swimwear as it does tucked into a pair of tailored linen trousers. A true day-to-night, rivera inspired vibe.
Our Johnny Collar Polo can be knitted from one of three yarns: pima cotton, a silk and cashmere blend, or a cotton and hemp blend. All ideal for hot and humid climes. We also love adding some character with a crochet weave or a fisherman’s rib weave.

Linen Suit
Something that we are always going to keep pushing here at Charles Paige Atelier is linen. We love it. It’s relaxed, breathable, durable and comes in a astounding range of colors. Arguably, a linen suit, along with cotton also, can be the most versatile suit one can own. This is due to “three-way suit” principle – a term coined by menswear journalist, Simon Crompton. Meaning the jacket and trousers can be worn easily as separates.
This is opitmal for travel during the summer. You’ll find yourself using the linen trousers a fair bit during the evenings and if there is a dinner or event that calls for a slightly more elevated look, you have the jacket ready to go, but the linen suit was look too formal and out of place on your summer vacation in Italy or Greece.
As mentioned in earlier posts, we love Solbiati’s Art du Lin. An incredibly soft, yet performing linen. Ariston’s linen provides vibrant pops of color and rich texture.

Summer Popover
The Summer Popover is our take on the traditional three-button jersey popover. There is this casual formality to it, yes, we know, that doesn’t make sense. Like the Johnny Collar Knit Polo it is just as practical at the dinner table than out on a boat at sunset. However, we do prefer it more for a daytime look, paired with swimshorts or cotton drawstring shorts.
It features a more relaxed, boxier fit with a button-down collar, four button placket and chest pocket. We like it crafted in either 100% linen or a cotton-linen blend.

W550 Work Shirt
Created in collaboration with the Melbourne-based tailored casualwear brand Informale, this piece is modelled after a worn vintage factory workers shirt from 1950s France. It is crafted from a Japanese “summerweight canvas” cotton, in timeless, utilitarian tones that echo its heritage while offering versatility for modern wardrobes.
Despite being made from a more durable canvas cotton, the fabric is surprisingly breathable and wrinkle-resistant, making it a quintessential travel companion, not just for summer but year round. We like it with a t-shirt or knitted crewneck, and chinos or tailored linen trousers.

Swimshorts
Let’s be honest, one great pair of swimshorts can get you through a long weekend away, maybe ever a week long summer vacation by the beach. The right shorts can elevate beachwear into a statement of understated luxury.
Our swimwear is made from 100% recycled polyester in Italy. The signature prints were designed by our close friend and architect Charles Beckendorf, of Beckendorf Architects in Austin. The are inspired by the shapes and motifs of Montauk. The pastel colors and timeless patterns pair well with a solid linen shirt or Summer Popover.
